Australia’s skilled migrant worker intake is set to grow by 40,000 people each year as the federal government attempts to combat the ongoing national labour shortage.
The migration intake is expected to be lifted to nearly 200,000 people a year from its current rate of 160,000 after two years of COVID-19 border closures led to a national staffing crisis.
Australia’s migration program will feature prominently at the jobs and skills summit, with the possibility of raising the cap for skilled migrants and visa processing backlogs surfacing as key issues in the lead-up to the event.
A previous recent announcement from the Federal government, as part of the recent Federal Budgets, stated Australia’s 2022-23 Migration Program would remain at 160,000.
