Some relief for certain 482/457 visa holders unable to return to Australia.

SkillSelect: Updates to Skilled Occupation List

Following Australia’s international border closures, many 457 and 482 visa holders were stranded and unable to return to Australia to continue working for their employer sponsor. Now a concession will apply to certain 457 and 482 visa holders outside of Australia whose visas have expired or will expire and are required to return to Australia to work for their sponsor.

No visa application charge payable until 31 December 2022

Holders of 457 and 482 visas who are outside of Australia and whose visas expired or will expire between 1 February 2020 and 31 December 2021 will be able to apply for a further 482 visa for free when an application is made between 27 February 2021 and 31 December 2022. Standard nomination requirements will however continue to apply.

Travel exemption still required

While temporary visa holders will still require an approved travel exemption while Australia’s international border restrictions remain in place, this concession will hopefully give some relief to 457 and 482 visa holders previously unable to return to Australia.
